The Palenque Palace was different from all the other buildings. Most of the other buildings were used as temples for religious purposes, but this was used for royal residency and was also the central focus of the city ("Palenque," 2014). The building is set on a 10-metre high platform, but the most unique feature is the square four storey tower that is a unique feature to Mesoamerican architecture (Palenque," 2014) It was mainly used for a royal residence, but it was also a place that accommodated nobles, servants, and military personnel. It had a steam bath, two bathrooms built over an underground stream, and was richly decorated with stucco painted really bright colors that represented royalty and nobility ("Palenque," 2014).
